How to Add Background image in Shopify

If you need to add a background image in Shopify, the easiest method is to find a section in your supported theme that uses a background image. In the Dawn theme and most free shopify themes, this section is called the “image gallery” and will use images as backgrounds by default. Below is a step-by-step guide for adding background images to Shopify.

  1. Navigate to the Theme Editor: In the admin panel, go to “Online Store” and then “Themes.”
  2. Choose your Theme: If you’re not using the default theme, select the theme you want to edit. If you’re using a custom theme, you might have additional options specific to that theme.
  3. Access the Theme Customization: Look for an option to customize the theme. Often, this is labeled as “Customize” or something similar.
  4. Open the Section Settings: Depending on the theme, you might need to navigate through sections to find the area where you can edit the background. Look for a section that corresponds to the part of the page where you want to change the background (e.g., header, body, footer).
  5. Background Settings: Inside the section settings, there should be an option to change the background. This might be labeled as “Background,” “Color & Images,” or something similar. Choose the option that allows you to upload an image or choose a color.
  6. Upload Image or Set Color: If you want to upload a custom background image, select the option to upload an image and then choose the image you want to use. If you want to use a solid color background, select the color you prefer.
  7. Adjust Settings: Depending on the theme, you might have additional options to adjust how the background is displayed. This could include settings like image position, repeat options, and more.
  8. Preview and Save: As you make changes to the background, you should see a live preview of how it will look. Once you’re satisfied with the changes, make sure to save your settings.
  9. Publish Changes: After saving the changes in the customization panel, make sure to publish the changes to your live store. There’s often a “Publish” or “Save” button at the top of the customization panel.
  10. View Your Store: Open your live store in a new tab or window to see how the custom background appears to your customers.

It’s important to note that the exact steps and options can vary depending on the theme you’re using and any updates Shopify has made since my last update. If you’re having trouble finding the specific customization options or if the process has changed, I recommend checking the official Shopify documentation or seeking help from Shopify’s support resources.
