It’s actually a great branding move. I’m just selfish. I’ll cover it again and I have covered it before… but Facebook’s new name is a phenomenal branding decision.

The Facebook Branding Problem.

The Facebook brand has come to own a plethora of digital and physical products like Instagram, video calling products, what’s an app, VR headsets, and a few other things. It makes sense the company would recognize the issue of maintaining a brand singularly recognized as the biggest and most controversial social media company.

As the brand grows, it needs more flexibility I’m branding for future product launches. Especially because their reputation has shifted away from younger purchasers and shifted towards older more politically inclined audiences.

Can you imagine how difficult it would be for FB to continue to launch tech products/software under that brand name? I’m just surprised it didn’t happen sooner.

My only concern is that now I might have to change my brand. My SEO is going to be all over the place And my brand recognition is gonna totally tank.

Why Facebook Changed its Brand to Meta

Meta is and has been on a course to becoming the biggest VR giant in the entire metaverse… hehe… But seriously. It takes some real investment dollars to just straight up own an entire section of the gaming industry and it appears Meta has done just that with their acquisition and development of the Quest 2.

But this is what happens in the branding world. You need to know your audience and understand every aspect of how your brand interfaces with that audience. If there’s anything that could potentially be confusing, you need to do everything in your power to make sure that you clarify it.
