We tried Bard AI and found ourselves a bit underwhelmed. Ever since OpenAI (a group Google contributed significant AI technology to) became a huge public overnight success, Google decided to scramble and release the AI competitor they have been working on in the background. I tried Bard AI chat and it became clear after a few interactions that Bard is just Chat GPT but with obvious restrictions that make it frustrating or even boring to chat with.
What is Google’s Bard AI?
Googles new Beta release of Bard AI is a language processing chat interface you can communicate with by getting approved for the public beta program at Bard.google.com.
Also known as a conversational AI or chatbot trained to be informative and comprehensive, Bard is am trained on a massive amount of text data, and is able to communicate and generate human-like text in response to a wide range of prompts and questions.
What data does Google use for Bard AI?
Bard is trained on a massive dataset of text and code. This dataset includes text from books, articles, code, and other sources. According to Bard “I was also trained on a dataset of human conversations, which helps me to understand the nuances of human language.
The training data is constantly being updated and improved, which allows me to learn new things and become more accurate. “
Bard AI VS chatGPT
Bard AI and Chat GPT are both large language models that can generate human-like text, translate languages, and write different kinds of creative text formats. However, there are some key differences between the two models.
Bard AI is based on Google’s LaMDA language model, while ChatGPT is based on GPT-3. LaMDA is a newer language model that is trained on a larger dataset of text and code than GPT-3. This means that Bard AI is able to generate more accurate and detailed text.

What makes Google’s Bard less impressive than chat GPT?
Despite being a more advanced model of language processing, Bard has some restrictions that make it frustrating or even boring to chat with.
Anyone who has worked with chatGPT knows that it feels fun and interesting to chat with. Genuine responses feel unique and you can get very different responses from the same prompt.
But the restrictions Google has implemented under the premise of keeping Bard safe and simple to chat with, have actually held it back.
What restrictions does Bard AI have that Chat GPT doesn’t have?
Unlike chat GPT, it’s pretty clear that Bard only gives limited responses. Especially when asking questions Google doesn’t want Bard to give bad answers to (like ‘what data set are you trained on’) gives pretty canned responses almost every time.
Does Bard AI use your Google data?
According to Bard, none of your information from your Google account or your Google ID is used to personalize your responses.
But it’s unclear what those limitations are and to what extent your data is private from Bard.
Even in our limited responses, Bard played a fine line between confirming that it’s responses were personalized but that it’s not using your data. But you may already be realizing the core problem here… How can you get personalized responses without data?

What makes Bard better than Chat GPT?
There are some code differences that make Googles new AI tech better than chat GPT. In previous articles, we talked about the issue with AI giving confidently incorrect answers. And chatGPT and Bing Chat AI have had these same issues with providing often incorrect responses.
Bard overcomes this issue with direct links and references on the internet and also lets you preview different responses Bard calculated at the same time.
Bard is Slower than Chat GPT…
One thing we noticed right away when playing around with Googles new AI chatbot is the problem with slow responses.
When you interact with chatGPT or an AI tool like rytr.me, almost instantly you will start to see text form on the screen.
Bard AI instead composes the entire response before letting you see it. It’s even possible that googles AI actually is faster than chat GPT but since it waits to show you the response until it’s all complete, it feels slower and less responsive.
Bard can write code, outline blogs and more.
Outside some of these small differences, Bard AI can do everything ChatGPT can. In my testing, I got it to help me write a section of Shopify liquid web code, build a python bot for scraping data from a website and outline a blog post about CBD gummies.
Whether it’s better than chatGPT is still up for debate and it remains to be seen which is better for your unique use case.
