There are a lot of aspects of the way modern marketing works that can feel dark at times. Unfeeling raw data analytics, mass marketing work to influence the masses, the constant daily grind of creating content that feels exemplary…

Ill admit, sometimes it gets to me.

Is Marketing Hard to do Long-Term? 

Sometimes it can be really hard to see the good that comes from building a mass marketing campaign, social analytics and product advertisement that all have product advertisements that all inevitably lead to the same place. A salesman looking to get your money.

And don’t get me wrong I understand that there’s a grimness to the way that I sometimes look at marketing. But the social psychology of the way that the modern marketing meta has shifted and evolved can be sometimes daunting.

That’s why I find it extremely important to constantly put myself in the right mind space for what I’m doing. Furthermore, I find it extremely important to know my business is built and designed ethically.

Are Marketing Ethics Important? 

Traditional marketing work fluctuates. Employees and contractors frequently move from job to job within this industry. Once they have learned everything that they can learn from a job, they frequently will take that information as a stepping stool to the next position.

And I’d expect nothing less. Marketing is a wonderful industry where many people are constantly learning the ins and outs of various columns within the industry. SEO columns, campaign management, Web design, branding, messaging, copywriting, data management, data analytics, email campaigning…

There are so many sections of this industry and there are so many companies that know they can thrive without the most ethical practices.

But the problem with organizations that ignore the ethical dilemmas in the industry, is their employees suffer the most.

Amazon has gotten into some really hot water surrounding the way Amazon deliveries can objectify the employee. As they should.

Why is Marketing Ethics Important? 

I have found that everyone in the marketing field is very comfortable marketing themselves and networking with others. That secret skillset gives you the ability to understand your value and avoid overworking yourself in areas you have no expertise.

In marketing, it’s extremely important to know yourself, what frustrates you, and how to rely on yourself with your value sets. To a degree, we all need to be comfortable with what we do at work but marketing individuals suffer uniquely when they have mental health challenges.

Because unlike labor industries or service-based industries, you can’t create content for anything if your head is in the wrong space.

For example, let’s say that you’re having a particularly stressful time at home and you take that into work with you every day. At the same time let’s imagine that you have a campaign you manage for any product.

In a marketing campaign, there are a million things that can go wrong, and attention to detail is what makes you successful.. What happens if emails get sent to the wrong list, or what happens if your social media posts don’t get scheduled on time, or what happens if your yeah or content creators and video editors leave for any reason… Usually, marketing individuals need to have generalized knowledge of every aspect of their campaign so that they can take over at a moment’s notice to help go from 0 to hero.

Is it possible to be Ethical in Marketing? 

Yeah, what I’m describing to you might sound like what it’s like to run a business… and it is. Marketing is it’d own business of providing information, and services, communicating, and interacting with the public in a way that is favorable to your brand. If your head is in the attic, then your content, branding, and campaigns all suffer with you.
